Days of Twang DEPHAZZ |
|
| CD: KRI-CD-3038 |
| Release Date: 4/24/2007 |
| Price: $12.98 |
The band DEPHAZZ (formerly De-Phazz) is well known in Europe with six previous albums under their belt and an extensive touring schedule. Clever and campy, downbeat and jazzy, their albums have garnered two Echo award nominations (German Grammys) and numerous top ten/twenty chart positions in Germany but they have only released two albums stateside (on Watermusic Records). They have licensed music for many commercial ad campaigns throughout Europe and have appeared on over 150 compilations worldwide.
“Days of Twang” is considerably more pop/rock driven than their previous releases and is guided by the retro viewpoint of bandleader Pit Baumgartner’s musical roots. An incredibly catchy and listenable record, it’s a throwback to the nearly obsolete notion of an “album”. Featuring longtime vocal collaborators Barbara Lahr, Pat Appleton and Karl Frierson, this collection spans genres and moods for a truly intoxicating experience.
"a bag of goodies full of intelligent musical references and hot grooves to dance to. ... Pit never gave up his strange humor which appears in fantastical sounds and sarcastic lyrics ... for the sake of a commercial sound" ~ FINANCIAL TIMES GERMANY (record of the week)
"you can buy this record blind" ~ FREE FM (record of the week)

One Day You'll Dance For Me Tokyo! Dalminjo |
|
| CD: KRI-CD-3035 |
| Release Date: 2/20/2007 |
| Price: $12.98 |
Dalminjo, the cool cat from Norway is back with his second album. Still only in his mid-twenties, Dalminjo (aka ORG Lounge aka Ole Roar Granli) has been producing music for over a decade and has turned his hand to Techno, Drum & Bass, Trip Hop and House, appearing on more than 150 compilations worldwide in the process. Two years have passed since his successful debut album Fjord Fusioneer (Kriztal - KRI-CD-3025) and as he continues on his journey he has both refined and tweaked his sound with an outcome that is not only genre-crossing but also modern and timeless all in in one. His unmistakable Broken Beat/Leftfield trademark is the main focus of the long player but in between he surprises us with remarkable diversity here. Jazz, Chillout, House, Broken Beat, Latin, Disco, Pop and even D&B (on uber-chilled closer “Scars”) are all thrown into the Dalminjo melting pot. Great for late night parties and clubs alike.
On “One Day You’ll Dance For Me Tokyo!”, Ole once again seeks the aid of some talented female vocalists. Anja Øyen Vister, lead vocalist for Norway’s Flunk, joins Dalminjo on two tracks, the album kickoff “Wouldn’t Wanna Go Without You”, and again on the cover of The Smith’s classic, “There Is A Light That Never Goes Out”. He also brings back collaboration favorites Alexandra Hamnede whom you know from Sweden’s Physics (on “Everytime You Go” and Come Here”) and Slowpho’s Hilde Drange (on “It’s All I Am”). He welcomes two new vocalists, the fresh new talent of Anéh (“This Time”) and Japanese singer Piya (“Uchu Ryokou”).

All Day And All Of The Night Remixes EP Flunk |
|
| CD: KRI-CD-3030 |
| Release Date: 2/15/2005 |
| Price: $5.98 |
| On the heels of their Kriztal debut, Flunk now returns with a more uptempo track, their dancefloor-aimed version of The Kinks' “All Day And All Of The Night”. While Flunk's original version is a dub-rockish take, producers Tronso (of Psalt fame) and Nils Noa (one of the leading Norwegian DJs) have turned it into a tech-house monster dancefloor killer. Their remix is featured both in a full length and a radio edit version. In addition to the various takes of All Day, we also get four additional remixes of tracks from the Morning Star album, done by the cream of up-and-coming Norwegian producers. Label mates on their home-label Beatservice, Elektrofant, have done a fun electro-pop-remix of "I've Been Waiting All My Life To Leave You", and yet more Beatservice colleagues, Athome Project and Slowpho, give two different approaches on "Play". Athome Project have chosen a dark dub-bass approach, while Christian Watkins of Slowpho has added more of a hip hop vibe and a spanish guitar. Parliavox (who recently remixed Kings Of Convenience) has delivered a beautiful remake of the title track, with dubby bass, trippy beats and even a grand piano! Kind of a Krüder & Dorfmeister for the new millenium. |

Morning Star Flunk |
|
| CD: KRI-CD-3031 |
| Release Date: 10/19/2004 |
| Price: $12.98 |
And now for something a little different. Fans of Kriztal music will know that we try to bring you fresh music from all over the world without painting ourselves into a corner with one musical genre. With Morning Star, we take a turn into the realm of Electronica/Pop with Flunk featuring the haunting vocals of Anja Øyen Vister.
Flunk is a stylish synth pop trio hailing from Norway and in addition to Anja with her Bjork vocal similarities, the group is rounded out with Ulf Nygaard, producer and vocalist, guitarist Jo Bakke and associated member drummer Erik Ruud.
Their first album (released on Guidance Recordings in 2003) and the hit single "Blue Monday", a remake of the New Order classic, garnered not only critical acclaim but also gave them a solid fan base from the track appearing on a slew of Stateside releases such as Ultra Chilled 03 and Chillin' at the Playboy Mansion.
Described as "woozy, gauzy, muted, blurry and very groovy", Flunk occupies that unlikely space between folk and electronica. At once organic and studio-tweaked, the Flunk sound layers Anja's "creamy, dreamy" vocals over a hushed base of samples, keys and softly strummed guitars, creating an ethereal, past-midnight vibe.
On Morning Star we are treated to another New Order track, a live studio recording of "True Faith". Morning Star also delivers very strong original material showcasing their suberb songwriting talent with the title track "Morning Star", as well as"Play", "On My Balcony", and "Blind My Mind". |

The Silk Road Café is a place where East meets West in a heady cocktail of sophisticated modern grooves and Asian-inspired beats. Oyebo Soul Arsenal |
|
| CD: KRI-CD-3026 |
| Release Date: 6/8/2004 |
| Price: $12.98 |
WORLD BEAT MEETS ELECTRONICA
Award winning Belgian duo, Arsenal, fuse World Beat with electronica. The results are Oyebo Soul. Oyebo Soul is a genre-bending artist album that incorporates Afro and Brazilian vibes with House, Rock and a dash of Hip Hop.
Arsenal was formed in 1999 by Hendrik Willemyns and John Roan who found immediate success with their first EP, “Release” after it appeared on a Café Del Mar compilation. Second was the single “A Volta” which also graced countless compilations in Europe including MTV’s Chill Out’, Phil Asher’s “Jazz In The House” and Palm Pictures “Brasilified”. They then began to collaborate with all sorts of people, from a Brazilian Capoeira teacher whom they met in the hallway of their apartment building, to Raj Mang (Groove Armada, Idjut Boys).
This year they were nominated for three Zamu Music Awards (the Belgian Grammys) for Best New Artist, Best Dance Album and Best Song (Mr. Doorman)
This album is a real melting pot of musical influences from Africa, Latin America and Europe which have been united by Arsenal in a beautiful musical journey which is probably going to be remembered as one of those albums which have a drift of the summertime thanks to its optimistic, sunny feeling which is present in most of the tracks.
When others try to mix different influences the way these guys have -afro-brazil-rock-house-hop- they generally end up with something similar to a JB & Coke but Arsenal has turned their Oyebo Soul into pure brandy! |

| Price: $12.98 |
Producer and label head Roy Shakked has forged quite a name for himself and his Hollywood, CA-based Groove Gravy Records. As the progenitor of The Tao of Groove, Roy created a buzz in music circles with the release of The Tao of Groove's first album, "Fresh Goods". The reviews were universally positive:
"This is without a doubt one of the best records I've heard this millenium." - Lip Service Magazine
"It's rare to find a debut album that covers so much musical territory with so much creativity. Great grooves you can both dance and listen to." - Pacifica Radio
"This CD is unbelievable...true to every genre it takes on...intelligent and sophisticated, while not losing focus of the groove and catchy hooks." - The World DJ
And now, continuing in his tradition of excellence, Roy has written, produced and performed on a new collection of music - "Jazzelicious presents...". Taking an inventive and eclectic approach to the styles of funk, blues, jazz, soul, latin and world beats, "Jazzelicious presents..." has a decidedly organic feel to it. Acoustic instruments complement the electronic aspects of the music to give it a warmth not usually found on many other chillout, lounge or acid jazz releases. All in all a masterful effort!

Miles To Go Billy Paul Williams |
|
| CD: KRI-CD-3008 |
| Release Date: 6/10/2003 |
| Price: $12.98 |
Billy Paul Williams is hard to categorize."Miles To Go", his debut album on Kriztal is a testament to the many influences that have shaped his music over the years.
Miles To Go features tasty vocal accents, intricate jazz harmonies and a riot of rhythms that reach from the Caribbean-African diaspora to sweaty South Beach clubs. The seductive, hypnotic music that results will easily appeal to fans already familiar with Kriztal's unique, genre-busting sound, but it will also reach a wider audience as it embraces deliciously eclectic influences such as Herbie Hancock, The Ohio Players, Miles Davis and Billy Preston. But it is Williams' own well-defined voice and emerging signature sound that speaks loudest here, a combination of complex rhythmic themes that lace his sweet, yet edgy compositions.
All 13 tracks on Miles To Go possess great groove, but closer listening reveals a wealth of unexpected ear candy accents such as the kalimba (African thumb piano) on "Nothing To Lose", Bobby McFerrin-inspired wordless vocable scatting on "Winter Heat", the subtle homage to a 70's television show theme on "Desert Moon" or the Donna Summer-ish sweet soul vocals by Charlotte McKinnon on "So In Love".
If you want to stretch your ears beyond the normal chillout drone, treat yourself to "Miles To Go".

Mesmerising Alex Cortiz |
|
| CD: KRI-CD-3015 |
| Release Date: 4/8/2003 |
| Price: $12.98 |
With three previous albums under his belt (Alex Cortiz - 1997, Moodfood – 2000, and Make Believe – 2001) Alex (aka Aad de Moy) has spent the last twelve months in the studio crafting over two dozen new tracks ranging from slow burning grooves to midtempo dance floor pleasers. The cream of the crop of this effort is collected on his new album “Mesmerising”,. All tracks reflect his inimitably casual yet sophisticated production style, a well-rounded feast of smooth moods and mellow charmers. Expanding Cortiz’ palette to include several classy midtempo cuts on the house tip, Memerising truly is Cortiz’s most accomplished piece of work so far, which is saying something considering he is one of the most experienced producers in the business.
Mesmerising stands out as a “home-listening” album for outgoing folks. Ask your friends over and bring on the cocktails. |

Eastenders Orientation Various |
|
| CD: KRI-CD-3007 |
| Release Date: 2/25/2003 |
| Price: $12.98 |
Through his far-reaching contacts, Eastenders (aka Stefan Müller) takes new Asian and Oriental sound elements and brings them together with western club and music culture. Even though the Nu Asian Dance Sound originated in London, it has long since become a global movement
Incorporating much live instrumentation on the various tracks, as well as elements from the usual electronica toolshed, Eastenders Orientation is not your standard Middle Eastern Chillout compilation. A sweet mix of jazz, chilled drum and bass, downtempo and ethnic beats and vocals, this disc features never-before-released tunes and rare, hard-to-find remixes that results in a collection that shreds the other “eastern” chillout compilations apart.
Released in conjunction with Poets Club Records (www.poetsclubrec.com) from Germany, Orientation is a flavorful blend of the exotic. Tasty!
Featuring tracks from Mychael Danna (Monsoon Wedding), dZihan & Kamien, The Karminsky Experience, Slop Shop and of course, Eastenders himself.
